Welcome to the Neighbourhood – Dubai Marina
THE MARINA BY ADRIAN BELL WHO LIVES IN THE STUNNING DEVELOPMENT AND RUNS ACTION IMPACT, THE BRAND EXPERIENCE AND DESIGN AGENCY
Adrian: please tell us about your family and where you live.
I’m married to Danielle (just celebrated five glorious years!), no kids but we do have a dog! We’re based in the Dubai Marina in the Jewels, a fabulous mature development from Cayan at the south end of the Marina near the new Double Tree Hilton.
You have been living in Dubai for 17 years or so, whereabouts have you lived during this time, and where stood out?
Believe it or not, I’m approaching my 20th year here in Dubai. During that time, I have lived in Jumeirah 1 and 2, Habtoor Residence (which no longer exists) Arabian Ranches and Rashidiya. Jumeirah 2 will always stand out for me but I have to say Dubai Marina takes some beating these days.
There’s always a lot of development in Dubai Marina. Do you see the benefits as a property owner there?
I bought the property off plan several years ago and despite the challenging times of 2009 and 2010, the property has appreciated positively. Dubai Marina is one of Dubai’s key centers of development and we’re very lucky to be completely surrounded by some of the city’s most exciting points of interest (including many to come!) all within short walking distance. This makes the area particularly attractive from both an investment point of view, as well as personal quality of life.
What are your favourite spots within walking distance? Cafes, restaurants etc
Truth is, there are many. We’re lucky to be only a short walk from the new beach-side development from Meeras “The Beach” which is a rich collection of fabulous restaurants, coffee shops, state-of-the-art cinemas and a terrific public beach. Furthermore, we are only a short walk from several four and five star hotels all of which offer yet more stunning dining facilities, spas etc. We’re completely spoilt for choice.
Is it a good place to live as a dog owner?
Not bad. On the surface, it appears perfect with a long marina path that surrounds the marina but there are some confusing signs from Emaar that imply dogs are not permitted. We’ve never had any issues walking ours though and confirmed as many others freely walk theirs too.
You are the co-founder and executive director of Action Impact please tell is more about brand experience and where to find you/your work?
Our world is the face-to-face marketing world. So, anything in the “live” environment – particularly for corporates – is what we do. Events, experiential marketing, exhibitions etc. We employ some 50 people here in Dubai and based in one of the TECOM freezones called “Dubai Production City”.
What’s your favorite restaurant in the Dubai Marina?
It’s very challenging to name just one but if I had to choose, then I would probably name The Scene in Pier 7, just adjacent to the Dubai Marina Mall. The quirky environment coupled with the British-comfort food menu makes a fine evening for anyone. And in the cooler months, the view over the Dubai Marina from exterior terrace is fabulous.
Finally, what advice would you give to someone looking to buy in Dubai?
I would steer advice towards looking at 2-3 of the key areas – particularly those with longer term development plans such as Dubai Marina and Downtown Dubai.
